The Bund der Vertriebenen has worked for decades to decouple the memory of German expulsion from the Nazi war of annihilation that caused it. The Stiftung Flucht, Vertreibung, Versöhnung and its Dokumentationszentrum in Berlin are the central instruments of that decoupling. This site documents how the operation works.

The name refers to Hier oben, bei den weißen Göttern (Jalal Maghout, 2020), an animated short about a Mozambican contract worker in the GDR. The title phrase means up here, with the white gods. It names the view from inside a country whose official anti-fascism coexisted with the racial violence done to the workers it had invited. This site is written from that same vantage.
